2024 Chicago Auto Show Media Day Preview

The 2024 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview had a lot to offer even when we missed the presence of Stellantis from the show. Once again we started off the day with a breakfast hosted by MAMA (Midwest Automotive Media Association) with key speakers Chris and Julie Ramsey detailing their trip from the north to south pole by only using their Nissan ARIYA. It was a really impressive showcase of how you can actually do road trips and go long distances by using an electric vehicle. Electric cars were a big focus of the Auto Show for the last few years and it came in as the primary focus this year. The main attraction of the show by far was the Tesla CybterTruck being on display by the electric vehicle test track. While many of the eyes were on Tesla with their CyberTruck for their Chicago Auto Show debut but Lucid Motors was present at the show for the first time ever. If you want a premium electric car then I don’t know how you cannot look at a vehicle like the Lucid Air. Not only does it have a gorgeous outside and beautiful interior but the performance can also speak for itself. During the Economic Club of Chicago Luncheon, we had the pleasure of hearing Pablo Di Si, President & CEO of Volkswagen Group of America take on a Q&A and give us a short presentation of what is next for electric vehicles and the motor industry in general. My biggest takeaway is that as a manufacture you have to be betting big on electric or else you might not be able to survive way down the road. The Chicago Report spent the rest of the time looking through all the displays, attending some walkarounds, and chatting with some major players in the automotive industry. Here are some notes that we took for this year’s show.

  • Subaru’s display once again shines above the rest of the competition
  • Honda seems to be focusing on gimmicks such as their jet and motocompacto to keep guests intrested
  • Chevrolet brings the heat with showcasing three different variants of the Corvette
    • Corvette, Corvette Z06, Corvette E-Ray
  • Kia expands their showcase of vehicles
  • Ford is still heavily showing off their gas powered vehicles while still showcasing their electric vehicles
