Utopia is a studio album by rapper Travis Scott. It was rumored for many years, and fans like myself eagerly waited four years for the album to drop. The album was finally released on July 28th, 2023, to much critical and fan praise. With the album becoming #1 on the Billboard Top 200 charts and breaking many streaming records, it was obvious for Travis to go on tour.
Travis announced in late August of 2023 that he would go on tour with ticket sales starting in September. This tour was officially called the Circus Maximus Tour. My friends and I knew we had to go to experience one of the biggest artists currently in the world. Originally we bought tickets for the show at the United Center on December 15th.
Unfortunately, on the day of the concert, it was canceled due to Scott’s plane not being able to leave for another country. It was then rescheduled for January 3rd but because of this, I had a few of my friends having to refund for tickets since they weren’t going to be able to make the show anymore. It ended up just being my friend Aidan and I going. We both refunded our tickets at first and then went ahead and bought cheap resale tickets in a suite. Even though there were some hiccups, it was an amazing experience. The energy inside the United Center was high and the atmosphere was haunting in a way. All the lights were dimmed inside the area, with fog pouring out, bright laser and LED lights showing, and a weird and unusual rocky stage design set in the middle.
This Chicago show was different than the ones before because this officially was the start date of the second leg of the Circus Maximus Tour. Also to make up for the fans who had to reschedule plans from the first show, Travis brought out a special guest to open the concert, Don Toliver. Don Toliver who is a member of Cactus Jack (Travis Scott’s label company) came out and sang many hit songs like “Lemonade” and “After Party”. Once Don was finished with his thirty-minute opening set, Travis finally came out to perform by jumping out of a platform inside the stage. Travis went ahead and performed for two hours with fierce energy. Everyone was standing, jumping, and dancing the whole show. Travis played most of the songs from Utopia but also performed many songs from his previous albums such as Rodeo and Astroworld. He also brought Don Toliver and later came back to perform “Can’t Say” from Astroworld with Travis Scott. Scott ended the show by walking off to the song “Telekinesis” from Utopia as he does with every concert during this tour. In the end, I was really glad I went and experienced it. The stage design and performance were something I had never seen before.
