Chicago White Sox Opening Day 2025

Another year, another baseball season has officially started! White Sox baseball is back in full force after a historic (losing) season. This is a year of rebuilding for the Chicago White Sox but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun at Rate Field. No, I did not forget the “Guaranteed” part of the Guaranteed Rate Field, it was left out because that is now the new name of the field. The brand Guaranteed Rate recently went through a rebrand and is now just known as Rate so as a coincide move, the field was renamed Rate Field on December 17, 2024. Ballpark naming aside, there weren’t significant changes this season at Rate Field other than the yearly new food options! This is the exciting part for most Sox fans this season. A lot of new items are being introduced this season with a mixture being offered throughout multiple vendors on the concourse and in the club seats.

OG Sando Chicken Sandwich

I am excited to try out as many new items as possible this season at Rate Field. I was fortunate enough to try out the OG Sando on opening day and I had to say it was delicious. The chicken itself was fried to perfection and was a decent size. I enjoyed the spicy sauce on the sandwich as well, and the habanero crust did add some kick. To me, it wasn’t that spicy overall and I think they want to go with a mass appeal for the sandwich so I can understand why they didn’t make it spicer. My pockets did hurt with this sandwich as it cost me about $20 after tax. Of course, you have to get a drink to accompany your food so in total for just the sandwich and a bottled Coke it costs $28.77. I cannot see myself getting it again for that price. In my head, the sandwich should realistically cost in the $12-$14 range or at least come with fries for the almost $20 price tag. A few innings later in the game, I attempted to go and try the Gojujang Bubble Waffle but the hype was real for Luckys as the line not only wrapped around the concession stand but also went from section 152 to section 145. I did end up satisfying my hunger with one of the famous grilled hot dogs stacked high with grilled onions and some mustard. The food experience at Rate Field never disappoints me even when the product on the field does. While the team is expected to have another tremendously bad season, Austin Slater started off the scoring in the 2nd inning by launching a solo shot to left field to make it a 1-0 ball game. Miguel Vargas in the 2nd also hit a double which scored both Korey Lee and Jacob Amaya. Sean Burke delivered a standout performance, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, and retiring the final 14 batters he faced. Later in the 8th, Andrew Benintendi showed his power and hit a three-run blast, and then Lenyn Sosa in the same also hit a two-run homer. The White Sox ended up winning a total of 8-1 against the Los Angeles Angels. I am looking forward to going to Rate Field a lot more this season cheering on the White Sox and sharing with you all the delicious new foods throughout the season and of course, no White Sox game is complete with a post-game meal at the world’s famous Ricobene’s!

Post-game Ricobene’s feast.
