Superdawg is a drive-in restaurant located on the northwest side of the city at 6363 N Milwaukee Ave. They also have a second location up in the suburb of Wheeling. Superdawg is best known for its hot dogs, burgers, and all things super. Almost everything on their menu starts with the word “Super” in front of the item.
Superdawg has a romantic beginning as it was started in 1948 by couple Maurie and Florence who were high school sweethearts. This happened after Maurie returned from fighting in WWII. Superdawg has been family-run since its beginning and still is. Not only that, they are still in the same exact location where they started.
This is truly one of the last drive-ins in the city. You can either order in your car through a menu speaker board at each parking spot or go inside and order at the counter. Superdawg is always busy which means they are always making food. The service is speedy and friendly. I have never waited more than 10 minutes for my food at any time.
Last night, I decided to go and get a late-night meal with my father and uncle. I really wanted to try the Whoopskidawg® because I never had it before. The Whoopskidawg® is a Polish, Hungarian, and Romanian combined sausage on a roll with grilled onion and a special sauce (tastes like barbecue). The sausage had a really prominent taste, the onion was sweet, and the roll was fluffy and soft. It was one of the best things I have ever tasted. It was unique in many ways and the only thing I could slightly compare it to is a Maxwell Street Polish sausage but that doesn’t do it justice. Of course, it came with fries which are some of the best crinkle cuts in the city to me because of their crispiness. Superdawg never disappoints and I highly recommend the Whoopskidawg® for your next visit.
