Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza is a giant music festival located at Grant Park. It is a four-day fest taking place during summer and features hundreds of musical acts across multiple stages. It is one of the biggest events for the city of Chicago. It brings in tons of tourism and boosts the local economy through revenue paths such as transportation, hotel, and food.

This was my first time ever attending Lollapalooza and I figured out why it’s so popular. I was always turned off by the idea of attending Lollapalooza. The idea of spending all day in the hot sun surrounded by thousands of people wasn’t tempting for me. This year, I decided to go because I had some close friends attending and because of the Friday and Saturday headliners.

The artists I wanted to see the most were SZA on Friday night and Future with Metro Boomin on Sunday night. While the headliners were the driving reason for me attending, I was pleasantly surprised by the other acts. I ended up enjoying a lot of other artists that I either never heard of before or never listened to their music in great detail. Renee Rapp, Sexyy Red, Laufey, and Killer Mike were a few of the artists who had great performances.

For me, the best sets for me were Renee Rapp and Sza. The best moment was especially when Renee Rapp brought out Chicago’s very own Chance the Rapper as a surprise guest. I figured out why so many people love Lollapalooza in the very few days it lasted. It is just a great vibe in general and has a sense of community. Thousands of people together in one space to listen to their favorite artists and straight up have a good time. I’m looking forward to attending more lollapaloozas in the future.
